Heritage Trail Park Concept Design

Location: Baltimore, MD
Type: Park, Site Planning, Landscape Associated with History, Public Participation, Sustainable Design, Visitor Center, Playground, Trail
Status: Concept completed

The goal of this project is to celebrate Dundalk’s ship building (Liberty Ship)/steel making industrial heritage. The Ship Stern, in trellis form with water features, would serve as a gateway to the ship. An “interactive theme play area” was proposed using artifacts from the old steel mill transformed to be play equipment for children. Crossing the existing storm stream is a pedestrian bridge to minimize the adverse impact on the existing wetland. The Midship would have wheel, campus, maps, etc. to show the visitor how ship was operated. The Ship Bow would have offices, meeting room, a café with outdoor eating area, upper deck for viewing and lower deck for festivals and community events.
