After decades of neglect, Mt. Auburn Cemetery, one of the oldest African American cemetery in Baltimore City, is in need of major renovation effort. Baltimore City Department of Transporation commissioned a team of consultants to undertake initial renovation efforts, mostly focusing on the improvements of the peripheral of the Cemetery. The renovation included replacement of the main entrance of the Cemetery with new stone piers, metal gate and gate arch, replacing existing fencing, construction of new sidewalk, installation and renovation of low stone walls, installation of a new stone cemetery sign and low maintenance landscaping.
