Woodlawn Cultural Park Museum and Visitor Center

Location: Montgomery County, MD
Type: Historic Preservation, Adaptive Reuse, Sustainable Design, Site Planning
Status: On the Board

This project is a historic preservation/adaptive reuse of an 18th century Quaker barn as a museum. An existing carriage house is proposed to be expanded to serve as a visitor center as well. The proposed landscape features include a stone seat wall, native, drought tolerant low maintenance planting, safety wood fencing, a tar and chip surfaced Barnyard for special events and parking for visitors with disability, and an ADA compliant tar and chip surfaced pathway system. Rain gardens and landscape infiltration strips are strategically located for SWM function as well as visual enhancement . All existing trees within the project area will be preserved. The encroachment of the critical root zones will be minimized.
