BALTIMORE CITY, MARYLAND
Seton Hill Neighborhood Improvement Plan
The main goals of this project are
- Improve traffic circulation in the Seton Hill neighborhood,
- Ensure traffic safety,
- Introduce traffic calming measures,
- Improve the streetscape,
- Provide additional pedestrian amenities
- Increase the neighborhood walkability and pedestrian friendliness.
As a result of the proposed street closing and reconfiguration, residual street spaces become available for the creation of pedestrian amenity spaces to be connected by a series of bump-outs and decorative crosswalks. Walkability from south to north and northwest will be drastically improved. The concept plan also recommends:
- An urban space with all of street trees, planters and seating as an extension of St. Mary’s Park
- A neighborhood congregating space between buildings with benches, seating, stage, tables and chairs, and planting
- Landscaped street corners with seating. In addition, “green design” is applied where appropriate:
- The roundabout island will not only be a visual focal point with landscaping but also function as a water quality management or water harvesting facility,
- Porous pavers are recommended for all new pedestrian spaces,
- All proposed planters can also be designed to serve the water quality management function.
