BALTIMORE CITY, MARYLAND

Hanlon Park Reconstruction

This project was to provide design services for the reconstruction of a twelve-acre park located in the north of Ashburton Reservoir. To ensure the safety of Baltimore City’s drinking water, two water tanks will be constructed under the existing Hanlon Park. PELA prepared the schematic design plan, and is currently preparing the construction documents. We have completed the construction drawings and specifications and cost estimate.

Design recommendations included: an entrance plaza with permeable pavers and a concrete labyrinth in the middle, a tree-lined entrance walk, a universally accessible curvilinear pathway system throughout the park, a multi-purpose field on top of the underground water tank, a combination of playground equipment, picnic patio with tables and chairs, a pavilion, fitness stations along the trail by the lake, an amphitheater in the south by the lake with rain garden and a stage made with composite wood, tennis courts and basketball courts, sustainable, low maintenance, water efficient and bio-diverse landscape planting which includes micro-bio-retention areas, forest type plantings, meadow plantings, and vegetative steep slope stabilization. In addition, a signage system was also developed for the park, which includes park entrance sign, directory signs, facility identification sign, and wayfinding sign. This project is currently under construction and is expected to complete in early 2025.
